1. What Is Book Now, Pay Later
If you're booking a musician well ahead of your event, Mucanto lets you confirm your booking now and pay closer to the date, instead of being charged the moment you submit your request.
This is called Book Now, Pay Later. Your card details are securely saved at the time of booking, and the actual charge is taken 14 days before your event.
2. When It Applies
Whether Book Now, Pay Later applies to your booking depends on how far in advance you're booking:
- Event is more than 60 days away: Book Now, Pay Later applies. Your card is saved at booking and charged 14 days before the event. Our Cancellation Policy and Verification Policy take effect once that charge is successfully completed. See Section 8 for full details.
- Event is 60 days away or sooner: Our standard booking process applies. Your payment is processed at the time of booking, and our Cancellation Policy and Verification Policy apply immediately from that point, exactly as with any standard booking.
3. How Your Card Is Saved
When you make a Book Now, Pay Later booking, you'll enter your card details as usual. Rather than charging you immediately, we securely save your card for the future charge through our payment provider, Stripe.
Depending on your bank, you may be asked to confirm your card once at this stage, for example through a one-time verification step. This is a standard security requirement and only happens at booking. You will not need to repeat it when the charge takes place later.
4. Payment Timeline
Here is what happens from booking to event when Book Now, Pay Later applies:
- At booking: You submit your request and your card is securely saved. No charge is made at this point, and your booking status shows as Pending Payment.
- 60 days before the event: If your saved card is due to expire before your event date, we will notify you and ask you to update your payment details.
- 30 days before the event: If your card still has not been updated and remains at risk of expiring, we will send a second reminder.
- 14 days before the event: Your saved card is automatically charged the full booking amount. You will receive a confirmation once the payment is successful, and our Cancellation Policy and Verification Policy take effect from this point.
5. Impact of Smart Booking Assist
Some musicians accept bookings automatically, while others review each request manually. This affects how your booking is confirmed, but not when your card is charged.
Automatic Approval
Availability has already been confirmed, so your booking is accepted automatically. Your card is saved as described above, and the charge still takes place 14 days before your event.
Manual Approval
The musician has 24 hours to accept or decline your request. Your card is saved at the time of booking either way. If the musician declines the request, or the request expires without a response, your card is not charged and no further action is required from you.
6. Keeping Your Card Up to Date
Because your card may be saved for several months before it is charged, we monitor its expiration date so you are not caught out.
- If your bank automatically reissues your card before your event, for example after it expires, this update is often reflected on our side without any action needed from you.
- If your card is due to expire before your event and no automatic update is detected, we will email you at 60 days and again at 30 days before the event, asking you to add a new card.
Removing a Saved Card
A card cannot be removed from your account while it is securing a booking that has not yet been charged. If you would like to switch cards, add your new card first. Your upcoming booking will automatically use it for the charge 14 days before the event.
7. If a Payment Doesn't Go Through
If we are unable to charge your card on the scheduled date, for example due to insufficient funds, an expired card, or a bank decline, we will notify you immediately by email and ask you to update your payment method.
We will then automatically retry the payment over the following days, up to your event date, giving you multiple opportunities to resolve the issue.
8. Cancellation & Verification Policies
Our Cancellation Policy and Verification Policy are the same for every booking on Mucanto, regardless of payment method. The only difference with Book Now, Pay Later is the point in time from which they apply.
Standard Bookings
For bookings made 60 days or fewer before the event, payment is processed immediately at the time of booking. Our Cancellation Policy and Verification Policy apply from that moment onward, as with any confirmed booking.
Book Now, Pay Later Bookings
For bookings made more than 60 days before the event, payment is only taken 14 days before the event. Our Cancellation Policy and Verification Policy apply from the moment that charge is successfully processed, in exactly the same way they apply to a standard booking.
If you cancel your booking before the 14-day charge takes place, no payment has been taken from your card, so no cancellation fee applies and there is no refund to process. Your saved card is released immediately and becomes available for other uses.
9. Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be notified before my card is charged?

Can I pay earlier than 14 days before my event?
The charge is scheduled automatically for 14 days before your event as a standard part of the process. If you have a specific need to pay earlier, please contact our customer service team.
What happens if my booking is declined by the musician?
If the musician declines your request, or the request expires without a response, your card is not charged and no action is required from you.
What happens if the musician cancels before the 14-day charge?
Before the 14-day charge, either party can cancel without penalty.
